ok I have a question: how come only some of my weapons work with my idols and stuff? I get some pretty cool staves but I have to put them away because my +6 energy idol doesn't work with it

All staves, bows and hammers are two-handed.
Try using a rod instead of a staff.

Canes, wands and rods are one handed. Staves arn't.
